Hi, today I'm going to post about a little of the tradition of celebrating chinese new year as well as what I must do every chinese new year when I visit my elders. Firstly, chinese new year falls on the first day of the lunar calendar every year. It is a significant day for chinese and chinese have to visit their elders on that day to show respect. Unmarried chinese gets a chance to receive red packets from elders, so children are always excited during chinese new year as they could go around taking 'ang baos' from so many people. What is contained inside the red packets is no other than the indispensable money! That's why I am also so excited during chinese new year. There are also manners that you must observe when receiving a red packet, we must always receive the red packet with two hands gently and graciously.
We must spent the money we collected during chinese new year wisely and not splurge them on useless things.
Also, according to the tradition, we must not spout unprosperous and useless rubbish on the auspicious day as it might affect the rest of the year. It is most joyous to hear blessing idioms as it is believed that we will remain blessed for the rest of the year. In a nutshell, the first day of the lunar year is believed to affect the rest of the year and that we must put up our best behaviour.
It will be pleasing for the love-lived elder if you could spent some time chatting with them when you're visiting them. This is so as you might not be visiting them so oftenly throughout the year especially when you're not staying in their vicinity. Hence, they might feel lonely at home. We must not put up a cucumber face on the auspicious day as the elders might feel offended.
What I do every year during chinese new year is that I will visit my elders and mingle with them amiably. I will also collect red packets from them and sum up the amount of money i had received at the end of the tiring day. I had my chinese new year today and it was a really fun one. HAPPY NEW YEAR!
